Deceptions of Spiritualism – Part 1

“To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to these things it is because there is no light in them.” Isaiah 8:20

I am noticing spiritualism creeping more and more into every aspect of society–even among my friends that claim to be Christian/believe in the Bible.

The premise that “we are Divine” (when people use capital letters like that it denotes that we have godhood, which is blasphemous [claiming to be God ourselves]),

That “we can save ourselves”,

And that “there are many paths to God” is against everything written in the Bible. 

The original lies told to Eve were “Ye shall not surely die:”, and “your eyes shall be opened”, and “ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil.” (see Genesis 3:4-5) Those lies are still alive and thriving today in the New Age movement.

Here are a few verses directly from the Bible on these matters:

“Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” -Acts 4:12

Jesus said, “I am the way the truth and the light. No man comes unto the Father but by me.” -John 14:6

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.” -John 10:1

“And when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits, and unto wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? for the living to the dead?” -Isaiah 8:19

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”-Jeremiah 17:9

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” -1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Notice how in that last passage it wasn’t the individuals who were saving themselves/turning to their own wisdom and strength to overcome bad habits-it was through Jesus, and God’s Spirit. 

Because there are many false teachings running rampant through many of the Christian churches at large, we need to study the Bible, praying that we are not deceived, and that God’s spirit will lead us into all truth.

I leave you with 2 short passages from Paul’s writings, discussing these problems of falsehood/teachings that are contrary to the law and the testimony sneaking into the church:

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.” -2 Thessalonians 2:3-4

Paul goes on to say,

 “And I will keep on doing what I am doing in order to cut the ground from under those who want an opportunity to be considered equal with us in the things they boast about. For such people are false apostles, deceitful workers, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants also masquerade as servants of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.” -2 Corinthians 11:12-15

If you claim to be a Christian, but disagree with any of the above texts, I challenge you to prayerfully take another look at the reasons for your belief. If you do not care to follow the teachings of Jesus, the prophets and apostles, what about Christianity are you basing your beliefs on?

As the hymn goes: “On Christ the solid rock I stand, all other ground is sinking sand.”
