“For the living know that they shall die: but the dead know not any thing,” -Ecclesiastes 9:5a
The mixing of witchcraft and spiritualism with Christian teaching is creating a deception unlike any other. As I mentioned earlier in part 1, Satan’s original claim to Eve was that “you shall not surely die” (Genesis 3:4). The prophet Ezekiel refutes that claim in chapter 18:20a: “The soul that sinneth, it shall die.“
The danger for Bible-believing Christians is that if you believe the modern teachings that say the dead aren’t really dead but that they can and do communicate with us, then the possibility for Satanic deception is huge! (And what does that say for us who are supposed to be “dead to sin” but “alive to Christ” if “dead” does not mean a complete loss of consciousness?)
Remember the story in 1 Samuel 28 where Saul went to a witch to consult with the dead prophet Samuel? God had specifically warned His people to avoid these individuals who claimed to be able to communicate with the spirit world because He knew they were false teachers and that lies could be more easily propagated if these deceivers were allowed to continue their practices.
Paul says in Ephesians 6:12 that we are fighting a spiritual battle. Spiritualism is part of that.
Think of it this way: Satan has been observing us and our loved-ones this whole time. He can easily mimic mannerisms and share information that only you and the person that died knew.
And If he can get you to believe that your dead relatives can talk to you then he can also get you to believe that there have been changes made to the teachings of the Bible, (because the relatives that we had a close relationship with would never lie to us, right?).
The thing is, God never changes. Hebrews 13:8, Numbers 23:19, and Psalms 102:25-27 makes that clear. If God told the Israelites to avoid certain groups of people over 3000 years ago, then I trust that He still wishes that for us today. Isaiah 8:20 warns “To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, it is because there is no light in them.” This is why it’s so important that the Bible be the sole focus of our study–Sola Scriptura.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-17 gives us hope that we will see our loved ones on that glorious resurrection morning:
“But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.”
God doesn’t bring the sleeping ones from heaven to earth, but rather from earth to heaven. See verse 16:
“For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:”
Those sleeping in Jesus, who have committed their lives to Him are raised first, and then verse 17 says those who are living, who have waited for this blessed hope, the glorious appearing of Jesus (see Titus 2:13), will join the newly resurrected group in the air:
“Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.”
Again, I encourage you to prayerfully read and study your Bible for yourself. Don’t just read a verse here or there, but take in the whole Word of God.
Satan is a liar and always will be. He is working in even more subtle ways because he knows his time is short. God loves us and has given us the Bible to provide timely direction and instruction in these chaotic times. ![]()
